For those folks who love horses and are interested in being coached in ways to up-skill on various sections of the Lower lakes Stockman's Challenge, a Training Clinic is being held at Strathalbyn from 29 November - 1st December 2013.



The clinic will be held at the rear of the property called The Riding Patch located off the Langhorne Creek Road. Just follow the signs from the round-about in Strathalbyn.



These training clinics are very popular with anyone who wishes to learn about Stockman's Challenge and the different aspects of the challenge competitions. These clinics not only attract local participants from around South Australia, but also interstate entrants.

The Training Clinic offers participants training in three sections of a Stockmans' Challenge with qualified coaches. They will receive a critique on their performance.

The Training Clinic also offers spectators the opportunity to observe the program.

Cost of Training Clinic: $300.00 per Applicant.

Cost of Spectators: $5.00 per Spectator

Clinics have limited places and it is essential for participants to book in advance.

The Training Clinic consists of:

Pack Saddle section – coach Shane Cooper (Port Lincoln SA)
Horse breaker and trainer, Camp Drafter, Hunter, currently competing nationally in Stockman's Challenges - competed 11 times at The Man From Snowy River Bush Festival – finalist in 10 of those, placed 3rd Battle on the Bidgee Challenge. Also has worked on movie sets. President of the Lower Lakes Stockman's Challenge & Bush Festival.



Cattle Clinic section – coach Darren Towns (Maffra, Victoria)
Horse breaker and trainer. Competes nationally in Camp Drafts and Stockman's Challenges. Commonly known as "Ledge" as the winner of the inaugural Lower Lakes Stockman's Challenge & Bush Festival 2012.



Obstacles section – coach Dan Lindley (Gundagai, NSW)
Stockman's Challenge rider competing nationally, current President of Battle on the Bidgee Challenge.



Whip Crack section – coach Noella Angel (Strathalbyn, SA)
SA State Champ Whip Crack, competes nationally in Stockman's Challenges, active member / competitor in Pony Club and is a qualified Horse Safety Australia coach.



The clinic classes will be conducted on Saturday, 30 November.
The critiquing of clinic participants will be available on Sunday 1 December.

Anyone attending the clinics are welcome to camp on site. You can come along, bring your horse, your tent, your swag, sleeping bag or what ever, and pitch your site and stay for the weekend if you like. Outdoor bathroom and amenities will be available. Your site is inclusive as part of the clinic package. It is up to you, you can bring your own meals or dine in local pubs and eateries, or you can partake in the BBQ and camp oven food on sale. Breakfast consisting of eggs and bacon will be available too.



Steve will be cooking various meals on the camp oven Saturday afternoon. He will be available to explain and demonstrate how the camp oven works, how to maintain them and of course how to cook different foods, which will be available Saturday evening.

On Saturday evening there will be local entertainment with some local guys singing and playing acoustic guitars, which is all inclusive. There will be a bar and a wonderful friendly family atmosphere where you can enjoy some real country hospitality.

The legend of the Lower Lakes Stockman's Challenge & Bush Festival is a heritage event. The rural town of Strathalbyn will be host to the biggest Stockman's Challenge event of its kind in South Australia in 2014 - watch this space for further details.
