Cheap and tasty vegan food that even meat-eaters will love
Let's preface this review by saying that I am not a vegan. I have absolutely no qualms about eating bacon and eggs for breakfast, fish and chips for lunch, and a juicy, medium-rare steak for dinner. That being said, I am more than willing to accompany my vegan friends for meals at Loving Hut.
Being an outsider to the vegan lifestyle, I had no idea what to expect when my friend led me to Loving Hut's Mount Gravatt store on Logan Road. The store didn't look so impressive, but that became pretty insignificant once I saw their menu.
Vegan restaurants are commonly thought of as unnecessarily pricey, but Loving Hut breaks this image. The most expensive items on the menu cost $13.99, and you're sure to be full if you order them. My friend and I respectively ordered the "Seven Seas Delight" as well as the "Loving Wrap"– both of us found the portions satisfying, and the food well-prepared and tasty.
As part of the largest chain of vegan restaurants worldwide, the people at Loving Hut Mt Gravatt really know what they're doing. The food caters to various individual tastes, and many dishes use soy alternatives that are very similar to meat. Most dishes offer an onion- and garlic- free option for devotees of Krishna, and some provide a gluten-free option at no extra cost. The salt and pepper tofu on the snack menu is particularly popular amongst patrons of the store, and there is also an impressive dessert menu that is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.
All in all, Loving Hut is a great place to visit for a casual meal with your friends, but probably not somewhere you would take an important date. While the service is fast, and the food cheap and tasty, it simply does not have the right décor or lighting to create the stylish atmosphere one may look for in a restaurant. Nevertheless, whether you're curious about vegan food or sick of your regular vegan-friendly restaurant, add Loving Hut to your list of restaurants to try– you won't regret it!
