The quest for optimum health is starting to become evident in our society. Vitality and feeling good is important to most and those who follow a vegan lifestyle often advocate this. For those that still eat animal based protein, it can seem like quite a stretch to survive on plant based foods only. What would you cook? How would you cook it? How do you get all the nutrients you need?
The Loving Hut in Richmond is a vegan restaurant with a colourful array of dishes to indulge even the most staunchest of meat eaters. The chef has cleverly arranged wholesome and satisfying fare that makes you feel great - even if you eat a number of dishes, you'll leave feeling 'light'.
In my case, I shared close to seven dishes! Yes, you heard right.
One of the stand out dishes was the Burmese Salad. This dish is absolutely a winner in the 'generous serve' race. It is chock-a-block with so many divine ingredients: cherry tomatoes, orange pieces, coriander, mint, shredded carrot, red cabbage, apple, beetroot greens, mixed lettuce, crushed nuts and tangy dressing.
With Spring here and Summer looming, it's the perfect time to start lightening the fare we eat and shedding some of the lethargy that winter and the cold weather can bring. The salad menu is quite diverse and the Green Papaya salad is a must as well.
The main meals menu features 'mock' meat and tofu based dishes, which may suit those who'd like to have a more substantial meal. The dishes are perfect for sharing and a great opportunity to try more of the menu's delicacies. The food is freshly cooked on the premises and you can buy frozen fare to take home.
While we're on the subject of fresh, on the chef's recommendation - I tried the raw chocolate cheesecake. WOW. This is an absolutely-need-to-try-dish. It's super hard to believe it is raw food and there is a lot of love that goes into making it.
From making the cream from nuts to the whole process of creating the cake from scratch, it is a delectable dessert and a relatively healthy way to stave off any sweet tooth cravings. Subtle hits of chocolate dance in every bite as the smooth, silky texture just melts in your mouth. I'm keen to work my way through that dessert menu!
When you head on down, be sure to touch base and let me know your favourite dishes.
