Sit back, relax and watch the world float by
After all the hassle of getting to Amsterdam with two young kids in tow, we decided to start our visit by taking a relaxing cruise on a canal boat. We found doing a cruise to be an excellent way to get a feel for the city and all it has to offer without the hassle of wandering around the crowded streets.

Once we'd taken a look around at the different tour options, we decided to go with Lovers Canal Cruises. The length of the cruise wasn't too long, so the kids wouldn't get bored and when we were looking at prices, they had a discounted rate on the day we visited.

There are many different tour companies around the city, and it is easy to walk around to find the best deal. We also tried looking on our phones but found the prices on the street to be better value.

As we cruised our way along the canal, the guide pointed out the different features of the buildings we were passing. He provided interesting background information as to when they were built and what some of them were originally used for, pointing out the colourful gable stones that adorn many of the building.

Combined with the guides entertaining commentary was some pre-recorded information on the boats GPS audio guide. It allows you to select your preferred language from a comprehensive range of languages and allows everyone to enjoy the tour. When you board the boat, they give you headphones to use with the GPS audio guide.

Some of the building we passed by include the old grand merchant houses, gothic churches, the Anne Frank house, museums, and medieval buildings,

The cruise company also offer different cruises including open boat, dinner, luxury, candlelight and burger.

Their hop on hop off bus and boat tickets allow you to explore at your own pace as tickets last for twenty-four hours.

For added value, they have combination tickets that provide you with discounted access to many other attractions around the city.
