Stop in the hills for a pie or sweet treat

Lovells Bakery in Inglewood, South Australia is found on the top end of the North East Road, when you drive past the city and out into the hills. It looks like a small road-side store, but we found it was a lovely place to stop for coffee and cake. They also serve pies and pastries. The Inglewood store is open long hours seven days a week, including most weekends and holidays.

We found that the staff were friendly and happy to chat as they made our coffee and tea selections. The range of cakes, breads and baked goods was excellent. I had a wicked Kitchener bun, full of cream and jam and coated with sugar. My friend had one of his favorites, custard tart. The prices were reasonable, and much cheaper than stopping for a formal meal at the hotel across the road.

While eating, I browsed through a free local newsletter the store had on display and marveled at all the community events in the area. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed, exactly right for a country "pick me up" or "driver reviver".
