I'm a qualified UK lawyer, who emigrated to Australia in May 2012. I have three small children and we've been getting to know Brisbane and making it our home.
Put a spring in your step at Love Your Local Markets
It's September and spring is in the air. The Jacaranda trees will soon be in flower and there will be a carpet of purple across Brisbane against a backdrop of clear blue skies and glorious sunshine. This is the ideal time to enjoy a Friday evening with family and friends at Love Your Local Markets.
A relaxing evening of delicious food and entertainment at Love Your Local Night Markets
It's the perfect set up, you can choose from an array of delicious street food, something to cater for all tastes; enjoy a drink from the terrace bar, which overlooks the children's entertainment area on the oval; and, after dinner, you can peruse the selection of quirky non food stalls, there is always something new to see. All this to a back drop of live music and, as dusk falls, you'll find something magical in the air. I'm not sure if it's the glittering fairy lights, friendly atmosphere or how much the stall holders seem to enjoy attending these markets, but it feels special and you'll want to hang around and soak it up.
October: 2 and 16 October November: 6 and 20 November December: 4 and 18 December
There are lots of added extras to these twilight markets, which makes people return time after time and come from further afield. There is a lovely mix of stalls, lots of regular stall holders, who've built up quite a following, and a flow of new stall holders. I personally love the Mini Maker stalls where children can sell their homemade wares.
So much to see and do - fresh food and great entertainment
The Love Your Local Night Markets are brought to you by the same people who have taken over Bulimba Festival, which will be held on 9-15 November this year. Their emphasis is on quality and they don't disappoint.
If you haven't already been, I'd urge you to go along after school or get together after work. It's child and dog friendly and it's a lovely way to start your weekend.
