January in Adelaide means fantastic weather, school holidays, and plenty of new year resolutions. In recent years January has also come to represent cyclist month with numerous recreational cycling events supporting the Tour Down Under. And now, for the 2nd year running, late January becomes the time when all of the above features combine in to a month long event known as .



What is ?

Formerly called the Tour de Work, the Love to Ride Challenge is a fun, free competition to encourage work colleagues and neighbours to experience first-hand the joys and benefits of riding a bike. People that work or live in the City of Adelaide, City of Unley, City of Charles Sturt, City of Norwood, Payneham & St Peters, City of Burnside or City of West Torrens are eligible to participate and eligible for prizes. Individuals who are not part of an organisation can take part as long as they live or work in one of the participating Council areas.

Workplaces compete against each other to see who can get the most staff to ride a bike between Friday 23 January and Monday 23 February 2015. It's not about who can cycle the furthest or the most often, but who can encourage the most people to give cycling a go.



How does it work ?

It's all about participation – which workplaces can get the most people to ride a bike for just 10 minutes or more? Workplaces compete against each other to see who can get the most staff to ride a bike during the month, with each workplace and individual then qualifying for participation prizes.

What are the benefits to your workplace ?

The benefits for the workplaces include :

  • A fun activity for your whole team, and for teams within teams
  • A friendly competition between staff teams and other local organisations
  • Help reduce congestion
  • Encourages exercise and fitness amongst colleagues



  • How to take part ?

    To take part there are four simple steps :
  • Register on the website , it's free.
  • Ride a bike anywhere, anytime for at least 10 minutes between Friday 23 January and Monday 23 February 2015.
  • Record your ride on the website or the app and tell your friends and workmates about the Challenge here.
  • Reward yourself and your friends by winning prizes!



  • What are the Team Sizes

    Organisations and departments compete against those of a similar size for a fair chance of winning for everyone. There are six size categories: 500 staff, 200-499 staff, 50-199 staff, 20-49 staff, 7-19 staff, 3-6 staff. The participation will count towards your department's and your organisation's score.

    What happens if I don't have a bike ?

    Don't worry! Not only will there be plenty of your work colleagues looking to loan you one, you could also loan a FREE Bike from Adelaide Free Bikes or rent one for a longer term from Bike SA .



    What are the prizes ?

    You can win some fantastic prizes by simply recording your bike rides or encouraging new cyclists, including:
  • Adelaide Fringe tickets and hospitality packages
  • iPad minis
  • Adelaide Monopoly games
  • Movie tickets
  • A range of vouchers from local businesses
  • plus more announced before and during the month long event

  • Additional prizes are also available for early registrants.

    Where to Ride ?

    Anywhere ! There are no excuses In Adelaide in terms of finding somewhere to ride. Most of Adelaide's roads have bike lanes, and are safe, but for those who are looking for a ride on a bike path then why not try the Barossa Valley , Onkaparinga Valley , McLaren Vale, River Torrens Linear Path or even the bike trail along the Esplanade anywhere from Seacliff to North Haven.
