Read about the mythological Kracken and enjoy a rum cocktail at the bar. Attend a safety briefing and don a crew uniform at your own peril. Do you like oysters and crab claw? Head into the piano bar to hear about Claude and her buckets.


Dive deep into the abyss on Captain Anderson's submarine and help him find Sandy his only daughter. Heed the siren song into the maze of the secret chambers, listen to stories told by the crew, watch an encounter, or get involved. There's love, jealousy, vanity, and a showcase of antiquities and curiosities to indulge your weirdest pleasure. The choice is yours!


The Austral on Johnston Street was a picture house, theatre, and dancehall from 1921 to 1959. Broad Encounters have resurrected this Great Dame to create a night of theatre with a twist. They have gone to great lengths to secure the venue to ensure your safety and imagination.


Once inside there are over 40 different rooms you can visit. some of which include the original features of The Austral from its former glory days. The experience is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne (1869), meets the film Ghost Ship by Vernen Sewell (1952), with a hint of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island.


Talented actors tell dark stories through dance, musical theatre, cabaret, burlesque, and circus. You can interact with the characters as much or as little as you like. You can leave at any time, but the recommended time is 60 to 90 minutes.
