I chose this show for my French-speaking fiancÚ who has a love of all things French. And because in a few months, shortly after we get married, I'm going to Paris for a girls trip without him. I was hoping for an evening that made us feel like we were in a Paris jazz club to make up for me visiting his favourite city without him, and Louise Blackwell and The French Set did not disappoint.
Nexus Arts was the perfect venue for this performance. An intimate enough space, with a bar inside the theatre and excellent sound quality. We got a possie at one of the bar tables along the side of the room to make the most of the cabaret style feel of the performance.
All set with some glasses of wine we settled in. As Louise and the six piece The French Set took to the stage the room was immediately transformed. Louise started off immediately in French telling tales of the famous French singers to go with each song (and doing an excellent job at explaining the song lyrics and meaning for the non-French speaking members of the audience).
All in all A Night In Paris did exactly what we wanted and to an exceptionally high standard. A night in Paris it really is.
One for Francophiles and those after a romantic evening.
Louise Blackwell and The French Set have 2 more shows during the Adelaide Fringe, Friday March 8th in the Grande Room at The Gilbert Street Hotel, and Wednesday March 13th at Saint Johns Anglican Church on Halifax Street.
