Lot 6 is a cool cafe inside Gate 6 of Melbourne University in Parkville. It's better than you'd expect from a student eatery and hard to miss – there's fake grass out the front. Inside, the cafe is light and modern:
There's lots on offer at Lot 6 – not just sandwiches, baguettes and bagels, you could have a breakfast of bircher muesli with cinnamon yoghurt and poached strawberries, or a crispy-skinned grilled salmon salad for lunch.
Instead of taking a number to your table, you take a letter. I was R.
I had a baked potato for lunch. It was nicely warmed, with generous dollops of coleslaw, cheese and sour cream. The potato itself and the coleslaw didn't taste super fresh to me (maybe just kept heated for too long?), and eating around the al-foil was a little awkward, but the bacon strips were ace, and the price was right.
My takeaway coffee was smooth and creamy – not bitter at all. It was probably served at the temperature you're supposed to serve coffee – but I tend to prefer it hotter. That said, it was probably the nicest coffee I've had in a long time. I'll be back!
