Craftsmanship, tradition, forgotten arts & rare trades

The Lost Trades Fair returns with its biggest event yet at Kyneton Racecourse on the weekend of 10 & 11 March 2018!

Located just 1 hour from Melbourne, the town of Kyneton is the perfect backdrop for the Lost Trades Fair, an exciting annual showcase of craftsmanship, skill, tradition, forgotten arts and rare trades.

Held in an inviting, family-friendly atmosphere, the Lost Trades Fair is sure to delight and inspire all ages. Come and discover a diverse range of traditional trades and the incredible artisans who continue to practise the trades! Think coopers, carriage builders, silversmiths, stonemasons, glass blowers, gunsmiths and many tradesmen and women from around the country.

There will enlightening demonstrations to view over the weekend which will give you a unique insight into the skilled manual work of a true artisan. Some of the highlights include wheelwrights, chairmakers, tinsmiths, shoemakers and coopers, makers of penny farthings and rocking horses.

Blacksmiths and stonemasons will also demonstrate alongside clockmakers, weavers, glassblowers, silversmiths and armourers. This will be a special opportunity to meet and watch career artisans, who usually work behind closed doors!

Eventgoers can also have a go at many of the trades themselves - some of the interactive activities on offer include how to use a treadle machine and a spinning wheel, create hand dip beeswax candles and how rope is made. You can also see red hot metal being bent into hooks, glass turn to liquid and made into beads, molten bronze cast into bells and watch decorative painters gold leaf traditional signs and pinstripe wagon wheels.

With over 1000 combined years of training - all in the one place - you will be sure to find some amazing skills, incredible hand work, craftsmanship at its very best and meet some true characters that live and breathe what they do!

The Lost Trades Fair attracts close to 20,000 people each year and is regarded as one of the most authentic events in regional Australia!
