Not many places in the world can offer idyllic getaways like Los Roques does. Located off the coast of Venezuela, 30 minutes away from Caracas, Archipelago Los Roques National Park has the most beautiful collection of white sandy beaches in all of the Caribbean.
Practically unknown by tourist of the world, especially when compared with its neighbours Aruba or Curaçao, Los Roques has a beautiful climate with lovely temperatures between 26º to 32º Celsius and the water stays about 24º Celsius, which makes it the perfect place for scuba diving, kite surfing or just relaxing and enjoying the turquoise surroundings.
There is just one town of 1,600 people on one of the 350 islands, cays or islets, set amid some 850 square miles of lagoons, reefs and the most gorgeous beaches that even well-travelled people have ever seen. There are no cruise ships or large hotels in Los Roques. The best way to travel is to fly from Caracas National Airport to El Gran Roque (the main and the largest island of the Archipelago, where most of the population live and work). The flight is a super short 35 minute flight and prices are ranging from $250 - $300 per person for a round trip ticket, depending on the season.
All the "Posadas" (hotels) in Los Roques are on "El Gran Roque". They offer packages that include breakfast, rides to the different cays, umbrellas and sand chairs for your comfort with lunch and drinks and snacks at the beach. If you feel like an adventure, you can hire snorkel gear or kite surf or windsurf and if you want privacy, you can ask to be taken to one of the isolated beaches.
On your way back at the end of the day, you'll find a delicious dinner waiting for you at your Posada, but you can also try some of the few restaurants that offer fresh fish and lobster.
