Anyone heading down the Great Ocean Road might want to duck into the Lorne Sea Baths to try out their new salt therapy room.

Salt therapy is great for anyone with respiratory (and there has certainly been an increase in asthma just lately) and skin conditions.

It's fairly simple. It's a small room where the tiniest halo of salt is blown into the room. You breathe it in but the worst that might happen to you is you might taste a tiny bit of salt in the back of your throat as you would in the ocean. And we all know how good the seawater is for our systems so nothing amiss here.

Each Session last for 45 minutes and the room has space for 6 people at a time. A Salt Therapy session includes access to the steam room to complete the revitalising experience.

Salt therapy, or halo-therapy, is a non-invasive natural technique that has been practiced for hundreds of years in Eastern Europe.

The idea started with the natural salt caves, which since medieval times hav been recognised for their wonderfully positive effects on health and well-being.

The room looks a bit like a very large sauna. But the floor is covered with pure white salt and you wear plastic covers on your shoes so as not to sully the area and also a cap on your head.

Then you just sit ther and relax with your feet up if you choose. There are comfortable Swedish looking reclining chairs and even a flat screen TV.

The halo-generator machines grind up pharmaceutical salt to a fine dust, which is then dispersed into the room as an aerosol. This allows it to be inhaled and absorbed by the skin.

There is plenty of fresh air filters and the room is large so you never feel like you are in a smallish space. You can also leave at any time.

What I like about this complex is that it has everything for families. It is next to a bar/cafe with incredible views over the ocean. Your older kids will know where you are and can come and find you. Plus you can see them.

There is a swimming pool and round tube boats to play on. There is a lovely warm hydrotherapy pool. To be honest, however, they could make this much easier to get out of. I saw a lot of tourists much younger than I am struggling.

There is also trampolines and mini golf. Worth a try next time you are down the coast as the setting is magic. Right on the beach.
