Lorne Hotel has good grub
Lorne Hotel is a restaurant, pub, bistro and bottle shop all rolled into one. It sits in a stunning location right across from the beach on the Great Ocean Road. And it has the most fabulous alfresco dining area with big tables to hold a lovely big family or group of friends.

Alfresco Dining
It has water views to die for and even on a cold winter day, a crowd was gathered, enjoying, fun, friends, food and frisk air. I think there was a footy game on as well, so the bistro was full of cheering crowds around several big-screen TVs.

Footie party was hopping
This was obviously a hot spot for the local town people for big events.

Bistro and Kids Play Zone
It was great they also had a kids play zone for the tiny tots. Even though the main restaurant closed at 3pm at the bistro, the food ran all day, where other places close and stop service and take a break between lunch and dinner, so chefs can prep. So it was nice for the food to continue throughout the day. Especially with school holidays and beach crowds.

All Day Dining
I was not sure what to expect with the food. Pub grub can be hit or miss. I wanted to be inside where it was a bit quieter, and pretty much had to place to myself. It was empty as everyone was outside. So I was surprised when I picked a table the waiter would not allow me to sit there. The place was empty.
Why not? The whole time I was there, no one sat there. Service is king, I saw this as a huge mistake by a junior waiter.

Empty as everyone was enjoying outdoors dining and footie games
But putting that aside, I ordered calamari and prawns and fish. It was a beautiful blend and the tartar was homemade and very tasty. The food was fab and hot. The menu was wide and varied and the specials were very good value as I got the seafood mix for only a few more dollars than the fish and chips.

Yummy seafood and fresh home made tartre
Drinks were served in generous glasses, at standard drink prices, instead of the new tiny glasses some places are serving grog in.

Bistro Views are lovely
And the views where breathtaking down to the beach. It was wheelchair and pram friendly as well. And then it was just a quick stroll back to the city centre and my apartment. Of course, I detoured down to walk through the lovely water at the beach, with all the kids playing in the surf. Then stroll back to your accommodation at
Sandridge Motel.
Stunning day, stunning stay in Lorne, Victoria. Don't forget your sunnies for this venue. But if you want to eat right on the beach, head down to the Lorne Surf Pavilion.
