The City of Melbourne is hosting the annual Lord Mayor's Creative Writing Awards. The award celebrates Melbourne's status as a UNESCO City of Literature, promotes its libraries' efforts in fostering ideas and creativity and recognises the literary talent in the community.
This year's award includes a new category for outstanding work focused on documenting, discussing or highlighting a uniquely Victorian story of Australia's First People. This Life Writing Award for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Writers is a way for the City of Melbourne to promote the richness of Indigenous culture and reconciliation.
Winning entries will receive a $2000 category prize. The overall winner of the Lord Mayor's Creative Writing Award will win an additional $10,000. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply for all categories.
The Lord Mayor's Creative Writing Awards are now open for entries. If you're an unpublished writer living in Victoria, you can sign up to win the cash prize and be recognised. Entries close at 6pm, Thursday 31 August 2017. Simply visit the website for terms and conditions and entry form.
