My children are all adults and have already flown the coop, so we have had to learn to compromise every Christmas - one year we have the pleasure of their company for the whole of Christmas Day and the alternate year we get to spend Christmas Eve with them. It's not an 'unhappy' arrangement as my significant other and I can spend Christmas Day, either playing with our new 'toys' or as happened for Christmas 2018, spoil ourselves with a scrumptious Christmas Lunch, created by 'others'.
The Loose Goose Bar and Restaurant was our choice for Christmas Lunch. I had received many prior recommendations to The Loose Goose Bar and Restaurant, located right next door to the Twin Waters Golf Course, and we certainly were not disappointed - it was everything we had hoped for, plus so much more.
The Loose Goose Bar and Restaurant is surreptitiously tucked away in Twin Waters just north of Buderim and south of Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. This hidden gem offers European-influenced, Australian cuisine, utilising only freshly sourced local produce and promising generous and creative servings, with a delicious menu that is prepared fresh every day.
The Loose Goose's Christmas Day Lunch Menu offered a three course meal for $130 per person, with two different menu options to choose from. Children were priced at $65 per child, which included two courses, two drinks, a colouring-in pack and a visit from Santa.
In addition to the above totally delicious Christmas Menu, The Loose Goose had catered for Vegetarians too, with a totally separate menu.
Entrée Vegan Pumpkin, Spinach & Truffle Risotto OR
House Made Potato Gnocchi with Cauliflower, Broccolini & Nuts
Main Stir Fry Vegetables in Sweet Soy with Hazelnuts, Chilli & Coriander OR
Asian Slaw with Harissa, Rainbow Chard & Broccolini
Chocolate Terrine with Hazelnut Dacquoise, Dark Chocolate Mousse, Raspberry Gel, Honeycomb & Raspberry Sorbet
Spiced Pannacotta with Berry Compote, Vanilla Sponge, Brandy Custard and Persian Pashmak
From the minute I called to make our reservation, right through to the 'tummies-full, I can't move an inch', contented finale to our Christmas Day Lunch, I was totally impressed with the efficiency and attentiveness of The Loose Goose's employees. On booking, a $50 non-refundable deposit was required - this I can totally understand as too many times restaurants are subjected to 'no shows'; with full payment required two weeks before Christmas Day. Again, it was great to know that our lunch was already paid for and we only had to worry about our liquid intake.
Undercover outdoor dining with tranquil water garden views
The Loose Goose has air-conditioned indoor dining (our choice for a sultry summer day) or undercover outdoor dining with tranquil views overlooking the very inviting water garden, with gently cascading falls and flowering waterlilies. There is just something about water! Anyway, I digress.
Hubby and I both selected the Crispy Skin Pork Belly with Cauliflower Puree, Asian Slaw and Peanuts. I'm not usually a huge fan of pork belly, given that it could be a 'high-cholesterol' sort of dish, but my gosh, was I ever so pleased with our choice. The crispy skin was done to perfection and in total contrast to the delicate flesh of the belly. There was absolutely no sign of any oiliness and the Asian slaw complimented our entrée with finesse.
Barramundi is a fish dish readily available on the Coast, so our choice for Mains was the Roast Duck with Sweet Potato, Fetta, Onion jam and Pomegranate jus. I don't believe words can do this dish justice, but the duck was totally more-ish and cooked to perfection.
Our dessert choice was the Spiced Pannacotta with Berry Compote, Vanilla Sponge, Brandy Custard and Persian Pashmak. Persian Pashmak is a type of Iranian candy floss or cotton candy. After the lavishness of our entrée and main meal, the totally delicious dessert was a fitting finale to our three-course Christmas lunch.
