Lookover Road is a 1.2 km road between Glendale Road and Oban Road.

It is almost in a valley as the large housing blocks that rise from both sides of the road with all houses well back from the road. Consequently, very few formal landscaped gardens were in evidence.

Some, however, had a more formal type garden at road level with some colourful flowers including Irises, Peonies and Sollya creeper.

Properties on acreages, as some were, tend to have impressive entrances and driveways.

Old farm equipment seems to have found a new lease of life in front yards of large blocks, particularly if they are rusty. A three-wheeled small dray almost looked at home in one garden.

Well-kept large front yards were the norm with trees being the dominant flora. Combined with nature strip trees a leafy green road is evident.

On this road, if you wish to test your counting skills, try counting the Agapanthus flowers. By the time you reach 1000, you can then count those on the other side of the road.

Part way along is the Lookover Road Reserve, dominated by huge high tension wires and their tall pylons.

Some say they are a blot on the landscape but up close, they are awesome. Apart from transmitting electricity, they also have another practical use. They make good landmarks for visual navigation in light aircraft.

The reserve is almost level at roadside but rises steeply as is ascends to Glenwood Close, after passing through a small stand of mature pine trees. A large, almost level grass field seemed ideal for local residents to play with their children.

Almost under the high tension wires is a bushy area. It was here that the only floral flora was seen. One of the tea tree variety and a Watsonia, a native of South Africa.

There are no footpaths along Lookover Road, so care and vigilance is needed if walking.

It would not be recommended for wheelchairs but the mobility challenged would enjoy a slow drive along roads such as Lookover Road.

A surprise was to see a small Jacaranda tree, in full bloom, on one nature strip. Non-council type trees are often seen in this type of road, probably planted by caring residents.

Despite the abundance of trees, the only birds seen were one noisy miner in a tree and several magpies at ground level.

Walking carefully or slowly driving, Lookover Road deserves a good look over.
