High on the hill overlooking Coober Pedy is .

It has one of the most amazing views right across the city.

A family run business, the hosts could not have been more welcoming. Lisa met us with a smile and a friendly attitude as we arrived at their motel.

Nick, her father, proudly showed us all around the building and explained the history of their business.

As you drive up to the hill, there is a very quaint and sweet outdoor area where you can relax taking in the afternoon breeze. Under the cool shade cloths, perhaps with a nice drink in hand.

This place truly lends itself to the amazing feel of the outback.

Upon entering the various underground rooms, they are set off a long corridor which goes deep into the hillside.

The temperature immediately drops and is incredibly comfortable.

The thing I really enjoyed about this location is the cute uniqueness of each room that is available.

Some are fairly simple with a double bed, others are more suited for friends travelling together or a family.

For those travelling with children, there is one suite you will really love. This room has four bunk beads and a double bed for the parents. What makes this even better is that there is a stone wall dividing the bunkroom to the parents main room. Therefore you have the privacy of two bedrooms but it is all within the one room, so you're still easily able to keep an eye on the children.
The family rooms are $200 per night for a family of four.

In some of the rooms they have created very unique tea and coffee areas by digging a hole in the wall and laying it with 2 tiles, thus creating a really unique little nook.

They currently have 19 rooms and are planning on it extending to 25, so you should have no trouble getting a booking if it is not peak season.

On the other side of the hill they have created a beautiful family room. It has luxurious floor-to-ceiling glass doors overlooking a beautiful little balcony. The kitchen and lounge room are modern and equipped with all of the conveniences you require to make your stay very comfortable.

There are then two bedrooms off the main section which can sleep between 2 to 6 people. The cost for this new section is $200 per night for a double or $400 for the entire unit for a family of four

Room Rates:
Single rooms $120 per night.
$130 double per night.
Most rooms here range from $135-200.

Free Internet and Wi-Fi LCD TVs.

As you exit the front of the building there is a stairway that leads up to hillside. You can climb up here to the viewing platform to get the most magnificent outlook across most of Coober Pedy.

The lookout cave Underground Motel can be located by driving into Coober Pedy, going through the main street and turning right as you exit the town.

You will see it sitting up high on the hillside with a sign.
