My husband and I are meataholics, so when a new rib house opens up nearby, we are always the first through the door. We were a little apprehensive of Lone Star since franchise restaurants don't always do a good steak justice, but I am happy to say we were not disappointed. With a new location, there always comes teething problems, but we were able to look past those and have a very enjoyable lunch.



The menu contains all the American classics. Naturally, the focus is on the ribs. You can choose from beef, lamb or pork ribs, slow-cooked and served with that iconic smokey BBQ sauce. I chose to go down a different road with the beef brisket tortilla and was not disappointed. The steak is great, and if you're feeling particularly hungry you can combine your rump with some ribs. For me, it's all about the little things, and the special seasoning salt they use on their chunky cut fries is to die for. Of course, there are many other options, including hot wings, salads, fish and chips and hotdogs, complete with corny American names like my favourite, the "George Dubya Bush Pepper Sqeeyid", or calamari to the rest of us. There are lunch specials available, and some very fussy-friendly kids meals.



The decor is suitably corny, with cowboy murals and waiters wearing Akubras. We found the atmosphere quite pleasant and there is plenty of space around the tables. As for the cocktails…well, I can't say. At the time we visited, they were BYO only (I guess they are not licensed yet). We are certainly looking forward to returning when the bar is up and running.



The Lone Star is open every day of the week, from 11am until 11pm. You can access the restaurant from the shopping centre, or from North Lakes Drive. If you park at the shopping centre, remember parking is only free for the first 3 hours.
