Recognized internationally as one of the finest orchestra ensembles, the will make a rare visit to Melbourne to play two concerts as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival. This is an event not be missed by lovers of classical music, as the opportunity seldom arises to hear a concert played by one of the world's most prestigious orchestras.
On Saturday 10th October the orchestra, conducted by the vibrant Vladimir Jurowski, will perform Graeme Koehne's "Powerhouse", Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No 4" and Ravel's "Piano Concerto in G" which will feature a solo from pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. The second concert on Sunday 11th October will include Wagner's "Die Meistersinger" Overture, Beethoven's "Symphony No 3 'Eroica'" and Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto", with a solo from violinist Vadim Repin.
Both concerts will be held in Hamer Hall at The Arts Centre, starting 8pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Tickets can be booked online or through the Arts Centre, which start from $25 for students and $103.60 for adults.
With such a rich history and a dazzling reputation, the is one of the best. Described by a critic as watching 'an orchestra on fire', these concerts are set to be one of the highlights of this year's Melbourne International Arts Festival.
