This privately owned quaint little Lolly Shop is a very recent addition to the expansive collection at Caboolture
Historical Village . The friendly shopkeeper has decorated it out with dolls, teddy bears, butterflies and her old school cases, so it is a pretty, tiny wonderland.
Large jars line the walls with lollies that some of us will know from the mid-last century, makes it sound ancient doesn't it? All the old favourites are there choo choo bars, musk pencils, aniseed rings, butter balls, lemon drops, coconut ice, rosy apples, candy braclets and tiny tubs of every flavoured drop you can imagine. Licorice allsorts, fruit sticks, bubble gum, sugar coated almonds, mango with white chocolate – don't remember those but they're on my shopping list for next time. Irish cream, fruit rock, Kahlua rock – where else can you purchase a whole lot of sweet treats for just $2 a packet?
Near the railway station and right next door to the soap shop you can inhale the aroma while enjoying the delightful display as you stock up on this fun trip down memory lane. Share them with the grandkids as you reminisce about bygone times and the stories that these sweets invoke.
Or add them to a gift basket for someone doing it tough? Often it is these little treats that mean more than an expensive gift that we may have no use for. And let's face it if they don't have a sweet tooth they can always share them amongst their visitors – they will never go to waste.
