This park is not on a main road. It's not really on the way to anywhere, so unless you live in this newer pocket of Mitchelton behind Mitchelton Primary School, you've probably never seen it before.

But what a beauty of a park for young kids it is.

Shade? Tick. There are shade sails covering almost the whole playground, plus some leafy trees.

Fence? Tick. You can relax on one of the benches without fearing your child might dart onto the road if you glance away for a second.

Although the park is on a quiet street, it's nice not to have to sprint after them.

Something different from every other park? Tick! Beside the playground (outside the fenced area) is a small lake. Once they're done in the playground, your kids can rock hop across the causeway, watch the families of ducks, spot dragonflies and look for frogs.

Feeding the ducks, however, is not encouraged. Which is fair enough when this lake provides such a healthy, natural habitat in which to find their food.

The play equipment links to the nearby wildlife with blocks you can line up to show the lifecycle of dragonflies, kookaburras and frogs.

The playground is best suited to toddlers and preschool kids. They might want to bring their bikes or scooters as a mini race track - complete with road signs - runs through the playground. It's a safe place to practise their skill on two wheels.

There's also a picnic table under a shelter so you could a bring a picnic lunch. Just don't bring too much to drink as one thing this park is missing is a toilet.
