Is this Melbourne’s loveliest chocolaterie?

Behold the chocolate haven that is Lizzy's.

Accomplished patissier come chocolatier Keith Van Tilburg opened Lizzy's Chocolates in the then sleepy but awakening suburb of Carnegie in May 1983, lovingly naming the chocolaterie after his wife, Elizabeth. Today, Lizzy's Chocolates is still run by the same family and within the original shop dwelling, with husband and wife team Ingrid (the Van Tilburgs' daughter) and Tim Nichols continuing the legacy of bringing traditional European recipes to life in suburban Melbourne. It's nostalgia at its best.

Some of the boxed and specialty selections at Lizzy's.
As you walk through Lizzy's door your senses are overcome; the sweet smell of chocolate perfumes the air, elegantly displayed chocolates are set in neat rows within glass cabinets in front of you, beautifully boxed chocolates wrapped in ribbon and tied up with string surround, and a warm, cosy café atmosphere invites you to sit down and relax.

Chief chocolatier Ingrid (aka Lizzy Junior) makes all of the chocolates on site, so you can expect only the very finest, freshest and highest quality handmade chocolates here. Lizzy's also brews up a mean espresso coffee and their hot chocolate, as you might expect, is nothing short of winter warming deliciousness in a cup. You also get a nice little tasting treat with your drink.

The award winning Lizzy's salted peanut butter chocolates.
In breaking news, Lizzy's recently took out a 2015 Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards Gold Medal and was honoured with the title of Champion (single variety chocolate) for their innovative peanut butter chocolate. Even those who aren't huge fans of peanut butter will be astounded by the flavours of this salted peanut chocolate sensation. You simply have to try one of these for yourself.

Love heart chocolates for your loved ones.
Even when they're busy winning awards, the shelves of Lizzy's are always lined with beautifully presented chocolates that are perfect for gifts - who doesn't love great chocolate? Choose from the boxed God's Balls in both chilli chocolate and cointreau truffles, giant 15cm freckles, boxed selections featuring Lizzy's most popular picks, large sculptured novelties and special ranges for occasions like Mother's, Father's and Valentine's Day, Easter and Christmas. And rest assured, they taste as good as they look!

Not surprisingly, the demand for Lizzy's lovely chocolates has grown so much over the years that they now have stockists across Victoria and New South Wales. So you may have enjoyed a little Lizzy's from afar, but nothing beats a visit into the store. You can even learn how to make chocolate at Lizzy's in-house chocolate making classes.

Set in a gorgeous little shop with cosy indoor and outdoor undercover areas, Lizzy's Chocolates is the perfect place for a little indulgent catch up with the girls, for a winter warmer with your one and only or to treat the kids, and it is an absolute must visit for chocolate lovers far and wide. Go on, treat yourself or someone special and experience the local institution that is Lizzy's, "where fine chocolate has been a tradition for generations."
