To celebrate a girlfriend’s birthday, we spent a few days of pampering at Living Valley Retreat in Kin Kin.

Living Valley Health Retreat is a registered charity and non-profit organisation established in 1990 to relieve sickness, suffering, and distress while promoting health and wellness education. Although our disposition was none of the above, we also wanted to learn how to live a healthier life.

Beautiful gardens around the complex

Packages are between three to twenty-eight days or longer if you choose, and your goals could be anything from restoring a healthy living programme, detoxification, weight management, men’s health, emotional release, cleansing or pampering etc., with all programmes being listed in detail on the website.

Accommodation is varied with options depending on the price you wish to pay and your privacy wishes. From single and double rooms with shared bathrooms, double rooms with ensuite, two-to-three-bedroom villas or as we chose, a deluxe two-bedroom villa approximately one hundred and twenty-five metres from the main centre, which gave us a kitchen with washing machine, a bedroom for each of us and large lounge room with a Smart TV, DVD player, and AppleBox.

Banskia Cottage for our stay

Our ‘Banksia Cottage’ was a perfect option for our retreat giving excellent views of the mountains and valley below and views of the other venues around the property. Although we did walk to and from the main centre most days, on the days it rained, we and others were collected in the golf buggy and transported to our destinations, whether that be an exercise class, swim in the pool, massage appointment, or meals. We felt extremely pampered!

Prior to our arrival, we chose what pampering treatments we wished to undertake, and mine were slightly different from my girlfriend’s choice, which then allowed us to have a bit of quiet time before or after the appointments. My choices were Detoxifying Clay Wrap, Reflexology, and Remedial Massage, which I totally enjoyed. My girlfriend added a facial to her choices.

On the verandah of the main centre there were plenty of herbal teas and bottled water to enjoy throughout the day

On arrival, we were given an agenda, which displayed the schedule of events for the day and a map of Living Valley, so guests knew where everything was situated and at what time. As it was suggested we book our appointments in advance, this schedule also gave us the knowledge that our appointments would not clash with any other activities we would like to do.

Healthy meals to enjoy

At Living Valley Health Retreat, the day commences at 6.00 am, however, you can choose what time you wish to rise. Before breakfast, activities included a self-serve vitamin C drink at the main centre, a Box Fix class, guided walk, body balance, stretch class, multimovement, or rise and flow class, which was all programmed for what the visitor wanted to achieve from his/her stay.

Drinks to enjoy during the day

Breakfast commenced at 7.30 am on weekdays and 8.30 am on weekends with lunch between 1.30 pm and 2.00 pm. Dinner was at 5.30 pm and retirement was suggested to be at 8.30 pm, which allowed the guests who wanted to be an early riser to do so, or for others to get enough sleep to enjoy the day’s events.

Lounge & Dining Room in Main Centre, along with books from reading

Bottled water was provided in and around each accommodation, although not served during meals as it dilutes the digestive juices when you are trying to encourage healthy digestion and assimilation of nutrients. It was recommended to drink a minimum of two litres of water each day during our stay and this allowed us to get into a routine after our stay.

This is the type of place you could return repeatedly, and in fact, I did speak to a gent who had returned each year over eight years. He advised that his health was in an extremely poor state on his first visit, and he can now take the guided walks without any trouble by maintaining a disciplined approach to his lifestyle when back home.

Comprehensive selection of goods for purchase

Living Valley Retreat has a shop onsite where you can purchase supplements, toiletries, skincare, healthy food and care, gifts, and more. Whether it was the water at Living Valley or not, the shampoo and conditioner provided in each room were particularly good for my hair and could be purchased from the shop. The shop's merchandise can also be purchased online.

If you wish to know more about the therapies and packages that Living Valley offers, you can call them on 1800 644 733. It may be the best holiday you give yourself.
