I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.

Are you a trivia buff?

Do you miss those Pub Trivia Quiz Nights that you went to in what seems like months and months ago? Do you miss the thrill of getting the right answers and competing against your family and friends? Well, here now is a chance to take part in a gentle yet just as competitive Trivia Quiz run by the lovely Jamie Moshman from City Quest. When I say gentle quiz, I mean no loud music and shouty questions and time wasted in between with banal chatter by the host as I experienced a while ago through another company. The thrill of waiting for the next question and hopefully getting it right is still very much there.

This quiz is an excellent mix of some easy, some hard, some in-between questions, suitable for all age groups from teenagers onwards. Each week there is the General Knowledge category to start and Picture Clues to finish. Other rounds could be movie quotes, history, mystery theme, numbers 1-10, or other rounds that people request or on which Jamie decides for that week. This Saturday, the categories will be General Knowledge, Book Intros, Mystery Theme, and Picture Clues. There is certainly lots of variety in the questions catering for all ages and all interests.

The quiz is divided into 4 rounds of 10 questions each and there is a half time break. The answers are written on paper and checked off after each round, so competing among family members and friends (on Zoom or similar if in locked down Victoria) is the way to go.

Jamie is a very amiable quizmaster and gives just the right amount of time to answer questions without any stress. It's a great way to spend an hour on Saturday nights starting at 8 pm. You can download the picture clues page from Facebook if you want to get a head start.

There is no need to register and no cost (unless you would like to donate a gold coin via the PayPal link in the video description). Jamie is running the quiz as a way for people to connect and have fun during the period of lockdown. The videos will be up on the YouTube Channel after the live stream if anyone wants to play later on. The directions on how to join the trivia quiz and how to play are all here. There are also DIY Quiz packs if anyone wants to host the quiz themselves. These are $8.95 reduced from the regular $11.95.

And once lockdown is finished, remember that Jamie runs City Quest tours through Melbourne, hunting for clues through different parts of the city with a surprise at the end. I can't think of a better way to rediscover the charm and beauty of Melbourne after this period of being at home.

I'll see you at the quiz night!
