In one of the most isolated cities in the world, the 'wacky' creative types have to find something to do with their time. The result? A surprisingly kick-ass music scene. Young talent is springing up left, right and centre, propelled by hopes of becoming the next Tame Impala or John Butler. But what's sound without somewhere to play it? Here are 5 top-dogs of the music venue pack.
Mojos North Fremantle Mojos bar is a clear favourite for music lovers of all ages. The grungy nautical decor vibes with Leighton beach and the nearby industrial area - it's not fancy, but it certainly is charming. From open mic nights, fundraisers and markets to long nights at high volumes, Mojos offers it all. And if you get hungry from all that boogying, a feed awaits you next door at Flipside burger bar. Just don't forget to show your stamp upon re-entry!

Fremantle Nestled under the wing of the well-loved Norfolk pub is the hippest remaining live music institution in the heart of freo. The Odd fellow, or the 'Norfolk downstairs', may present as a quaint and cosy cave but the musicians are pumped to make loud and glorious noise - and the patrons equally so. A night at the Odd Fellow is guarateed to pack a punch.

Northbridge When it comes to music, Perth City takes a step back and leaves the good stuff to its eccentric and unruly sister, Northbridge, where amidst the jazz bars and neon lights, you'll find The Bird. This exposed brickwork haven, complete with shiny wooden surfaces and mood-lit booths, can't help but have you feeling fancy. Accordingly, the Bird also hosts all sorts of tasteful events like poetry slams and art exhibitions. Awesome.

The Rosemount North Perth Ah, old Rosie. Never has there been a better place to make friends in the bathroom. Since its establishment, this place has been serving the musical needs of nearby sharehouse dwellers and committed-muso-crowds alike; often hosting festival-type gigs over 2 stages well into the night. If the wee hours aren't your playtime, the leafy beer garden and pub-style menu make for an ace arvo sesh.

Leederville Unleash your inner songdemon! Situated in the heart of trendy Leederville, Babushka may be one of the grungiest venues Perth has to offer. It's dark, it's a little bit dingy - all the better to bask in the stage light (or stick in the back where no one can see you and unashamedly thrash to the the beat). Feast your soul.
