There's nothing like announcing Summer is here, then with Live at the Bowl. It's outdoors, it's filled with a sense of community, and it's a festival of music, dance and family friendly events for everyone. Put the dates in the diary for an incredible lineup of musicians local and international that'll grace the Bowl from Sat 21 Jan to Fri 28 Apr from 6pm to 10pm on various dates. See here for the lineup and keep clicking on 'load more events' till you get to April.

Sidney Myer Music Bowl set in the Kings Domain Gardens, Linlithgow Avenue, Melbourne, is best known for Melbourne's annual Carols by Candlelight. However over the years, it has hosted many famous performances over its long history. With 2000 seats and a sprawling lawn, it's the perfect venue to bring as many friends as you want, share a picnic on the lawn, take in symphonies at sunset, and dance the night away to your favourite bands and DJs. Be sure to scour the lineup filled with ticketed and free events. Your four free events are as follows.

26 Jan - Share the Spirit is a community-based festival that celebrates the survival of First Nations peoples in Australia held on 26 January – Survival Day. The stellar lineup is led by multi ARIA Award-winner Dan Sultan, and includes the Djirri Djirri Dancers and more. All details can be found via the link.

8 Feb - MSO: A Tchaikovsky Spectacular - Featuring some of Tchaikovsky's best known works, this performance will have you humming all the way home.
15 Feb - MSO: Mosaics: Contemporary sounds of Melbourne - Celebrating the breadth and diverity of Melbourne with four dynamic and diverse artists
18 Feb - MSO: Carmina Burana - Hannah Shin, winner of the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, performs Prokofiev's most acclaimed Piano Concerto under the baton of Benjamin Northey

Live at the Bowl kicks off on 21 Jan with the Midsummer Extravaganza at $49. Hosted by queer comedy royalty Joel Creasy, this year's Extravaganza promises to be the biggest yet. There'll be comedians, and beloved acts like Courtney Act, Dolly Diamond and Tash York amongst others gracing the stage. Get in early and don't miss out on your favourite shows; take in some iconic veterans like Darren Hayes, Icehouse and more.

With year round events at the Arts Centre, you need to subscribe and follow to stay in the know. Check out all upcoming events on the Facebook event page. With kids on school holidays, mums and dads might want to check out the Teeny Tiny Stevies on 12 Feb; a much loved ARIA Award-winning children's band also at Live at the Bowl. Kids 3-10 years might enjoy joining 8 year old Grace and her family on their adventurous and often funny expedition around Australia in Are We There Yet?, at The Playhouse. The Arts Centre is always interesting with my favourite toastie and coffee housed at Art Centre's Cafe - Protagonist, and there's always the Sunday Artisan Market to enjoy.
