Set in Concord, Massachusetts, Little Women: The Musical is an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel, which explores the lives and adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they come of age during the American Civil War.

The musical adaption, which opened on Broadway in 2005 and features memorable songs including Astonishing and The Fire Within Me, centres around the headstrong Jo March, who dreams of becoming a successful writer but struggles with societal expectations as she yearns to find her own voice.



This production is presented by Emergent Academy, one of Perth’s leading tertiary performing arts training organisations offering Certificate and Diploma-level programs. Little Women is their showcase production for 2024 and features a cast of 19 talented music theatre students.

North Fremantle resident Jemma Desforges and Subiaco resident Tiara Volk will share the role of Jo March over the weekend of performances.

Jo is a fiercely self-assured girl who is wise beyond her years, Jemma said.

She is such a fun and multifaceted character to play, as she is filled with so much life and energy and I look forward to bringing her story to the stage

Tiara says there is something for everyone to love within the show.



Little Women is an incredible story loved by generations, and I believe all audience members can relate to at least one character, she says.

Attadale resident Jess Ferris, who will portray young Amy in this production, credits her training at Emergent Academy in helping her prepare for the role.
