Kingston Town Hall in Moorabbin will be transformed into Little Wars on Sunday 1st June; a day of tabletop gaming fun on, now in its eighth year in Melbourne.

Little Wars celebrates varied interests in all things gaming, covering a range of genres including sci-fi, fantasy, sports, historicals, wargames, boardgames, subbuteo and even Lego.

Many games are free to join over the course of the day - just turn up and play, however, sometimes games can get very busy and people can miss out.

To avoid disappointment, it is recommended to book yourself a spot into a particular game that interests you. You can book any number of spaces for a game online here , depending on how many are left. If you would like to play at a certain time of the day, make a note via the comments section of the booking. Go to www.littlewars.com.au for the full list of Melbourne games available.

In addition to participating tabletop games, there will also be demonstration games at Little Wars, showcasing rulesets or a range of figures, where visitors are encouraged to stop and ask questions and see the game in action

Tournaments aren't as common, but they do happen sometimes. Often the loudest and most animated tables at the show, tournaments are pre-booked and taken very seriously!.

There are also a number of static displays at the shows, where talented people showcase their skills.

Lastly, there is a chance to participate in the Ozpainters Open Painting competition, a contest based on painting any miniature from any manufacturer. Judging will be based on open format with multiple gold, silver and bronze medals granted based on an individual model's merit. The cost to enter is $5 for up to three categories and $10 for an entry into all the categories. (the fee covers running the event and provision of trophies)

Little Wars also offers visitors a chance to take home models and games via representing traders on the day, as well as books and militaria.

Little Wars runs from 9:30am -4:40pm, free entry with a voluntary gold coin donation bucket near the main exit. To find out more, go to www.littlewars.com.au and follow Little Wars on Facebook .

The word gaming may be associated with children, but Little Wars is not a children's event in particular. There are a few kid-friendly games on, although parent supervision is advised throughout the day. The main focus is on boardgamers, modellers and wargamers, which is usually ages 12yr plus.

Drop by Kingston Town Hall on the first day of winter, and keep warm with a day of gaming fun at Little Wars.
