This Sunday November 20 at 2pm, Pepper Street Arts Centre is celebrating its 21st year, and this event is combined with the launch of the Little Treasures Christmas Market in the afternoon.

Little Treasures is an annual Christmas event that supports local artists to showcase and sell their handcrafted gifts to the community in an exhibition venue with a market type ambience.
This year there are over 50 artists exhibiting across many crafts and art forms. Items include jewellery, wall art of many mediums, leather goods, carry bags made of video tape, glass works, silks and other textiles, mosaics, soft toys, woodwork, and of course gifts with an obvious Christmas theme.

All the artworks are for sale. Artists rely on sales of their work to invest back into their arts practices. Pepper Street prides itself on being able to offer large-scale opportunities such as Little Treasures throughout their exhibition program, to enable both hobbyists and established artists to reach a wide audience.

This Sunday, to celebrate their 21st anniversary, Pepper Street will be making special audio recordings of people's memories of the opening of the Centre. There will be woodcarving demonstrations, musical entertainment from Adelaide Sound Connection singers, and you will be able to have your own personalised calligraphy bookmark as a souvenir of the occasion.

Pepper Street was opened in 1995 by renowned sculptor, John Dowie, in response to community demand for a dedicated arts space. Before this, Burnside Library was the only facility that provided such a space.

The 1880s building where the Arts Centre is housed was formerly Magill Primary School and was used for a range of other purposes until it was acquired by Burnside Council in 1990.
Known then as the Pepper Street Gallery & Community Studio, the facility comprised a combined gallery and gift shop space in the rear of the building . In 2001 the entire building was dedicated to the new facility and renamed Pepper Street Arts Centre, to reflect its 'arts hub' atmosphere.

Today, 21 years on since inception, the Centre provides up to 22 exhibitions and artist of the month showcases per year, plus accompanying events and artist demonstrations, as well as
a burgeoning gift shop which enables artists' work to be displayed in a consignment setting.

Little Treasures is on display until December 22, and there will be artists' demonstrations every Saturday from 2 - 4pm. Details are available on the Pepper Street website and there are regular updates on their Facebook page .
