Stanford psychologist Walter Mischel famously carried out a series of marshmallow experiments with kids in the 60's and 70s. In short, a group of kids were placed in a room and given two marshmallows each and a bell. The researcher then would tell them that they had to leave the room but that they could eat both marshmallows when she returned or, if they couldn't wait until then, they may ring the bell and eat one, but only one.
I can promise you if I had taken part in that experiment I would have been ringing the bell long before the researcher was even out of the room. Who can resist marshmallows?
Thankfully we here in Perth have just hit the marshmallow jackpot with the opening of the Little Polkadot Mallow Salon in Fremantle.
Forget everything you think you know about marshmallows and prepare to be in for a culinary treat. With flavours like rose water (my personal favourite) and mint chocolate chip, these homemade desserts take marshmallows to a whole new level.
The artisan behind the exquisite treats is Shenay Barua. A regular on the market scene Shenay has built up quite a fanbase and when you taste her wares it's easy to see why. Her passion and dedication is obvious and with each bite, you know a lot of love has gone into these creations.
On these cold winter days why not treat yourself and get down to the Little Polkadot Pantry Mallow Salon and unlike the poor kids in the marshmallow experiment, you can have as many mallows as your heart desires.
The Salon is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm at 147 South Terrace, Fremantle.
