Little Nic's Big Day is a children's picture book that was written by Nic Naitanui and illustrated by Fatima Anaya and published by Albert Street books in November 2019. It is 32 pages long and suitable for children between 3 and 6 years of age.
Little Nic's Big Day is the first book written by Nic Naitanui.
Nic Naitanui or NicNat as he is known for short is a well-known and highly respected Australian Rules footballer and the ruckman of the West Coast Eagles AFL Team. He was born in Sydney on 4 May 1990 to Fijian parents, Bola and Atetha Naitanui, who had emigrated to Australia the previous year. Nic's father died from cancer the year after he was born. After his death, Nic and his family moved to Western Australia. Nic and his siblings were raised by their mother, who Nic credits with raising him with strong values and helping him find success both on and off the field.
Little Nic's Big Day tells the story of a little boy named Nic who is nervous about starting his first day of school. His mother tells him to wake up, it's his first day! His school clothes are ready and he has new friends to make. Nic is worried about starting at a new school. He is nervous he won't make any friends and that the other kids will think he is strange and different. His Mum tells him not to worry and encourages him to just be himself around the other kids.
This was such a lovely, heart-warming book with a positive message in it about celebrating our differences and the things that we love. The book explores all the wonderful ways that children express themselves and all the ways they are different from each other. I loved Fatima Anaya's bright and cheerful illustrations and the strong relationship between Nic and his mother in this book. The book encourages children to do what makes them happy, whatever that might be, and to be open about learning new things and making new friends.
