Located next to Lai's Pantry , Little J Vietnamese Restaurant offers Vietnamese cuisine with a focus on hot pot dishes. As it was opened recently during our visit, the selection of dishes was limited but they intend to increase the range in the future.

Also known by its Vietnamese name of Bun Rieu, their Crab Vermicelli Noodle Soup had vermicelli noodles that still retained some bite, and the broth had the crab flavour we expected. Despite its first appearance, the broth was not spicy. The pork meatballs were juicy and a change of texture was provided by pock hock and tofu. The pork red pudding is a type of blood curd, which did not taste too strong.

Served with the dish were Asian herbs, beansprouts, chilli and a lemon wedge. Be aware that their chilli packs a potent spicy punch. Shrimp paste also accompanied the dish but those who find the smell off-putting can request for it to be omitted.

When ordering their hot pot, diners have the choice of tom yum, signature spicy beef soup, sour and spicy soup, and soy beef soup for the broth. Pricing of the dish is based on the weight of the ingredients with a 500g minimum for an order. The tofu and oyster mushrooms that we chose were not too chewy, and the choy sum, bok choy and Chinese cabbage retained some texture. A unique option available was pork balls with black fungus mushrooms. The black fungus gave it a flavour a bit different from the normal pork balls.

For the broth, we chose the signature spicy beef soup. While it looked clear when it was brought to the table, it had a fiery spicy flavour. During our visit, the restaurant offered diners samples of the broth to taste before making their choice.

The restaurant had a comfortable feel with a good amount of seating space. The carpark in front provides convenient off-street parking for customers.
