I am a world traveller & a mom of two, (8 & 6). I love to meet people, and am fascinated that there are 7 billion stories out there to be explored. I think Melbourne is the most happening city to live in with all the fun activities around town.
Children can make a difference
Every parent will agree with the statement that parenting is challenging, to say the least. If there is one common goal all parents have, it is to imbibe good values in their chidlren so that they may grow up to be responsible citizens of the world. However, you never really know the results of your efforts until the children grow up, unless your child comes home from school one day and says: "How can I help the disadvantaged people in the world?" As a parent, you know that you must be doing something right when you hear something like this.

If your child is inclined towards philanthropic activities, you can encourage your little one by participating in certain activities which promote the same values. One of these activities is being organized by "Little Doers", a not for profit association. The "Little Doers Fun Run" will take place on Sunday, 20th October 2013 in Malvern Gardens (High Street, Malvern). The Run will constitute a 1 or 2 km fun run/walk for children aged between 0 and 10 years. It is obvious the parents or guardians will be accompanying the children.
Family, friends, neighbours and teachers can sponsor your child and help him or her raise funds that can be donated to a charity of your child's choice from the per-selected variety of charities. There is a brief introduction of what each charity aims to achieve on the website. This is a great way to teach children that although we are privileged in many ways, there are people across the globe who need our help. Similarly, the animals and the environment also need saving.
A little about the venue: The Malvern Gardens were the first public gardens in the town opened in 1890. Beautiful pathways are adorned with lines of English Oaks and other trees and plants.
A few technicalities for the adults: 1. Registration is limited to 250 chidren. There is a $25 cost to register each child, for which you will receive a t-shirt and other goodies on the fun run day. 2. On the day of the run, registration will begin at 9am and the run begins at 10am. 3. If you wish to volunteer at the event, click here.
I think this is a wonderful opportunity for young children to let the adults know that they care too and want to do something practical to change the world, a little bit at a time.
