I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au
I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.

Best in Brisbane (and they're also gluten free)
Have you heard, the Little Black Pug Cafe in Mt Gravatt has just won best pancakes in Brisbane as voted by Courier Mail readers! Being just down the road from my place and having driven past many times and not stopped, I decided that finally it was time. The award also stated that the pancakes were gluten-free, so with three coeliacs in the family, it really was a no-brainer!
Best Pancakes in Brissy - The Birthday Cake
On arrival, we were lucky to get a table for our group of five; note to self - ensure to book next time, and let me tell you, there will most definitely be a next time! Owners Josh and Louise have a background in science and approach their food to be simple, tasty and made with care. The menu offerings range from sweet to savoury, and on perusal, we couldn't decide which way to go. A compromise was found, with shared savoury and sweet treats so we could sample a bit of everything. This was happily accommodated by the staff, who straight away offered to bring out share plates.
Big Belly Benny - braised pork belly with sweet chilli hollandaise on a croissant
Our selections ranged from Big Belly Benny (complete with braised pork belly and sweet chilli hollandaise - yum!) and the B.A.E Roll to gluten-free chocolate brownie waffles and the signature "Birthday Cake" gluten-free vanilla pancakes topped with salted buttercream, caramelised white chocolate and fresh berries. What a treat! The coeliacs in our party were ecstatic and there were plenty of vegan choices as well.
Beautifully enticing fresh juices
Drinks were freshly made juices, with fabulous names such as Morning Sunrise, Reddy Set Go and Green Dream. The drinks menu also has coffee from Toby's Estate, teas and thick shakes.
The B.A.E. Roll is also available in Gluten Free
With a name like "Little Black Pug", the owners are obviously dog lovers, so your favourite mutt can also expect a bowl of water on arrival and can order doggie delights from the menu such Meatballs, Puppycinos and Doggy Biscuits. Oh, and kids get there own special meals too!
These gluten free chocolate brownie waffles are to die for!
Little Black Pug Cafe is open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 2pm and on Sunday from 7:30am to 2pm. The kitchen closes thirty minutes before closing time and there is a 15% surcharge on Public Holidays. For groups of three or more, it is advisable to pre-book by calling 0491 084 771. Prices range from $12:50 to $23 and the restaurant can be found at 6/1297 Logan Rd, Mt Gravatt.
The owners have also recently leased another space and have decorated it to use as a function space. Since then, they have hosted birthday parties, baby showers, hen's parties, and business networking meetings in this space. You can find out more by visiting their website.
