Little Big Shots is Australia's International Film Festival for Kids. Each year, the ACMI plays host to Little Big Shots' festival which showcases the work of young filmmakers who inspire kids through short film, animation and the magic of cinema.
The Melbourne premiere of Boy and the World is a fundraiser event, to help Little Big Shots tour the country. The fun day of entertainment will see the screening of Boy and the World as well as extra treats, giveaways, and a big raffle.
Boy and the World was nominated for Best Animated Film at the recent 2016 Academy Awards. The enchanting animation from Brazil fills the big screen with an explosion of colour and music. The vibrant film follows the explorations of a young boy, seeing the world through his eyes.
Cuca's cosy rural life is shattered when his father leaves for the city, prompting him to embark on a quest to reunite his family. The young boy, Cuca, leaves country life for the bright lights of the city. The industrial landscapes are alien to Cuca, with streets alive with flashing neon advertisements and machines.
The story shows the variation of village and city life, and the differences between hand-crafted and mechanised, rich and poor.
Due to the topics in the animated film, the age suitability is 7 years and older. A more detailed parent's guide will be published on the Little Big Shots website closer to the date of the screening.
