I am a world traveller & a mom of two, (8 & 6). I love to meet people, and am fascinated that there are 7 billion stories out there to be explored. I think Melbourne is the most happening city to live in with all the fun activities around town.
Parents, take your children to a special event
I had never really heard or imagined that there would exist a fim festival that caters to a children's audience, but hallelujah, there is. It is known as the Little Big Shots Film Festival, and amazingly, the concept was conceived in Melbourne seven years ago in 2004. The Festival tours around the big cities including Canberra, Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne. In 2013, this film festival is coming to Melbourne starting 7 June to 10 June (Queen's birthday long weekend) at Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square and Artplay (Birrarung Mar).

So what can you expect? The festival promises to screen the best from around the world. Movies/animations/documentaries, etc. made for kids, and sometimes amazingly by kids. Of course, the themes of the movies that are included in the festival are child-friendly and in fact promote values that we all cherish and share as people of the world - the global village.

Movie screenings are followed by meaningful relevant activities and discussions to let the children's creativity and imagination continue to flow. The target age group is anywhere between the ages of 2 and 15 years old, and the adults who are young at heart. In fact, this is a family friendly festival, so everyone is invited. The movie screenings can be checked at their website.

On a separate note, if your child is talented and has the ambition of making movies, there is a filmmaking course that might interest you. The Trop Jr Filmmaking Course will set you back $270 for a 5-day course at the Melbourne Arts Centre. For more details, click here.
