Spring is sprung - get into it and enjoy
Brisbane residents, whether they hail from the North, South or to the West of the Brisbane CBD, are familiar with the iconic Grand View Hotel in Cleveland.

The Grand View was built in 1851 and is the oldest licensed hotel in Queensland. It remains an imposing figure with its magnificent views over Moreton Bay to North Stradbroke Island. When Brisbanites have interstate or international visitors the Beer Garden at the Grandie, as she is affectionately known, is on most Must Do Lists.

The Grand View Hotel, Cleveland

In recent years, the Grand View Hotel has earned a reputation for its support of the Arts. Their Literary Lunches and Dinners are extremely popular with many attendees driving the 30 minutes to Cleveland from the city.

With Spring upon us, the Grand View has a number of functions scheduled to please both lovers of books and anyone interested in current affairs. That these functions include a fine two-course meal is an added bonus.

Books signed by the authors will be available for purchase on the day. It is not compulsory to buy a book, but I have found it a general rule that the book prices are several dollars lower than store prices if you are interested.

Here's a list of events. Book early or you will miss out!

Shelly Davidson, author of Shadow Sisters

Tuesday, September 11th. Lunch from noon to 2:30pm
40.00 GV Members
45.00 Non Members

This memoir tells the story of Shelly's early life growing up in apartheid South Africa during the 70's and 80's. There is a common thread to our Stolen Generation when Shelly's parents take on the responsibility of a three-year-old black child, which in later years, creates issues.

Adam Liaw, author of Destination Flavour, People and Places.

Wednesday, September 12th. Dinner from 7 pm.
$50.00 GV Members
$55.00 Non Members

One of Australia's favourite cooks, having won MasterChef, and television presenters, Liaw now has five cookbooks to his name. This one looks another winner!

Richard De Crespigny, author of Fly.

Thursday, September 20th. Lunch from noon
$40.00 GV Members
$45.00 Non Members

The author started his career as an aviator in the RAAF in 1975, later joining Qantas in 1986. He tells the dramatic true story of a flight en route from Singapore to Sydney which could have been catastrophic were it not for the teamwork and skill of the crew on board.

The Grand View Hotel is located at 49 North Street, Cleveland, and has both off and on-street parking. It is an easy 15-minute walk to the Cleveland Railway Station if you are up to making a day of it, and only a three-minute taxi ride.

Bookings are a necessity and can be made on 07 3884 3000, or online here
