Who is David Kilcullen?
Kilcullen undertook Military training at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, before becoming a Senior Analyst with the Australian Government, contributing to the Government's White Paper, "Transnational Terrorism: The Threat to Australia".
He was then seconded to America where he was formally the Senior Counterinsurgency Advisor to General David Petraeus in Iraq and later an advisor to General Stanley McChrystal in Afghanistan. He is currently an advisor to N.A.T.O as well as being Adjunct Professor of Security Studies at the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a Fellow at the Center for a New American Security.
All a bit of a mouthful really, isn't it?
More importantly he is the author being featured at February's Literary Luncheon at the Grand View Hotel, 49 North Street, Cleveland.
David will be discussing his latest book, Blood Year, in which he calls upon all his experience over the past twenty five years. In this book, released last year, he looks at both history and strategy to make sense of the rise of ISIS and asks pertinent questions such as what threat does ISIS pose to Australia ?
This does not at all look like a light read. It is well worth Googling the reviews which certainly indicate that there should be some lively discussion at this Luncheon.
The Literary Lunch commences at noon on Wednesday, 24th February. Tickets are available for $40.00 for Grand View Hotel Members and $45.00 for Non-Members and includes a Two Course Meal and a glass of wine upon entry.
RSVP on 07 3884 3000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Grand View Hotel have these functions down pat. I've been to a few now - they are both informative and entertaining.
I hope I can take a day off work for this one as I would like a better understanding of this crisis.
