If there is one thing guaranteed to warm you on a winter's night it's is a bonfire. On Saturday 24th of June if you come to Lismore you will experience fireworks and a bonfire along with a spectacular community Lantern Parade with incredible illuminated sculptures dancing their way through the CBD streets to the music of local bands.
The Parade
In its 23rd year the 2017 Lismore Lantern Parade will celebrate the resilience of the community of Far North New South Wales.
It was less than 3 short months ago that devastating flood waters in the wake of cyclone Debbie saw the whole CBD and other low lying areas of Lismore being evacuated. Hundreds of businesses and thousands of people were forced to flee the fast moving, rising waters. This year's lantern parade will hold special significance as up to 90% of the lanterns were damaged in the flood waters and have been resurrected by
LightnUp Inc team members and community volunteers.
The Parade starts from the Cnr of Market & Molesworth Streets at 5.30 pm and marches on through the Lismore CBD arriving at Oakes Oval around 6.30 pm.
For the past two years our family has taken up vantage points in Keen Street. Be warned though, the parade is a free community event and attracts tens of thousands of onlookers all vying for the best view spot. We have learned to get to the streets early with BYO chair, warm jacket, beanie and rug for the most comfortable viewing experience.
There is a map of the route available

Expect to see carnival dancers, school children with their own creatively decorated lanterns and hear parade bands, music and street theatre. This year Pegasus, the winged horse, will lead the march.
Fiery Finale
The Parade makes its way onto Oakes Oval at around 6.30 pm (Gates to the Oval open at 4.30 pm). You will need tickets to enter the oval.
Purchase tickets here .
There is grandstand seating available at the oval and this is the absolute best viewing spot for the Fiery Finale. The fireworks are throughout the Fiery Finale show, which finishes around 7.30pm.
Winter Warmers
Amongst all the excitment of the Parade and Fiery Finale there are community food stalls set up at Oakes Oval between 4.00 - 8.00pm. You can also find arts, crafts and community market stalls in Carrington Street at Market deLight until 9.00pm.
Our family has always found the parade provides a safe and enjoyable experience.
