Mudgee, an easy three and a half-hour drive from Sydney is the perfect weekend getaway for city slickers who are looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle that comes with the daily grind. It is located in the Central West of New South Wales and is famous for its heritage colonial buildings and dozens of wineries. Wait, did someone say WINE?!
If you're here for wine, you're likely here for comfort too. Lismar Lodge, an easy 15 minute drive from the town centre, is such a great option for travellers staying in the area - especially those with pets! Lismar Lodge has two options: "The Cottage" for one or two travellers, and "Panorama" for families up to 4. Both options have flat rates all year round, with weeknights being cheaper than weekends. However, there are no extra charges for public holidays, nor are there cleaning fees. In addition, should you choose for longer, there is also a cheaper flat rate for a week's stay.
As we had just two humans and two dogs, we stayed at The Cottage. The Cottage has been welcoming visitors in the region for more than five years. Unlike most places you may have stayed at before, The Cottage offers laundry facilities, a fully equipped kitchen (including a whole set of kitchen knives and more pots than I own at home), an outside deck with a BBQ and fire pit to keep you warm in winter, and a powerful reverse cycle air conditioning unit to keep you cool in summer.
Other perks include a fully fenced backyard from which you can see all the chooks and roosters in action - you can even collect your own farm fresh eggs if you'd like. If collecting your own eggs isn't quite your thing, you're welcome to help yourself to the free eggs in the fridge. Don't mind if we do! Oh, and did we mention they have Netflix and free wifi with an amazing connection speed?!
There are lots of animals on the property which you are free to see at any time, including chooks, ducks, sheep... and two alpacas! You can also say hello to the resident poodles who will not turn down a good pat. The sunrise is amazing at the property - but if you want a good lie in instead, the sunset is equally amazing!
And to finish off our glowing review of Lismar Lodge, for those of you with dogs, there is even a doggy door insert to give your pooch free access in and out of the house. There's no need to wake up in the middle of the night to let them out!
So, what are you waiting for? It's time for a weekend getaway to Mudgee with the whole family - pooches included. Here's to beautiful rural views, an abundance of farm animals, and of course, lots and lots of wine!
