The beautiful Lisgar Gardens are celebrating their 50th anniversary this September with an afternoon of jazz amongst the flowering plants and shrubs, nearby fish ponds, waterfalls and rainforest walk of this 6.5 acre property.
Hornsby's hidden hillside treasure is hosting three groups of musicians for this spring event, as follows –
Kylie and Carmel from Jim Jam Music Studios will delight the audience with silky jazz tones and sweet harmonies. Their set features both famous and not-so-famous songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Buble and Postmodern Jukebox, to name a few.
Based in Hornsby, they work with young children of varying ages in providing a range of classes exploring different musical instruments whilst fostering social and emotional skills, language growth and self-control.

Hornsby Girls Jazz Band
This jazz ensemble of students from Years 7-12, along with the school principal, play a range of jazz and rock featuring popular works.
Performing for school functions and community events, April of this year saw them touring the European countries of Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy where they performed and participated in workshops.
What a great experience and learning opportunity for them. I'm sure we'll see some of that shining through at the gardens.
Part of the Golden Kangaroos (Hornsby Concert Band), this ensemble of six musicians will entertain onlookers with their various brass instruments in a variety of instrumental groups and musical styles.
The Beecroft-based members tailor their musical bazaar to provide a diverse musical experience for all to enjoy.
All this jazz can be enjoyed from 1.30pm-3pm with entry by donation. All proceeds will go to the garden's nominated charity, Hornsby Connect, which provides support and hope to those in the community that need it most. Registration for this event is via Eventbrite.
Tea, coffee and finger food will be available for purchase. Cash will be required as there are no ATMs onsite.
An inclinator will take you from the top entry down to the pavilion and lawn areas. It will operate from 1pm-4pm. Alternatively, you can take the steps down.
Limited parking can be found in Lisgar Road. It is suggested that it is better to park at the William Street Car Park behind Odeon Cinema. It is free for 3hrs and is a 10minute walk to the gardens. This car park is also close to Hornsby station if you want to train it in.
Whilst at Lisgar, be sure to check out the formal gardens and different levels planted with rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, gardenias and other exotics in harmony with native trees and ferns. It's a sight to see in spring.
Bring your picnic rug too and chill out in this oasis in Sydney's north.
