Lipoedema? Although I have seen people with this condition, I was not aware of the name of the condition, nor knew much about it until I researched more to write this article.

Lipoedema is a chronic condition that affects mainly women and is known by a painful swelling in the legs, thighs, buttocks and sometimes arms. The reason for the condition is an abnormal accumulation of fat under the skin and although at present there is no cure, therapies can be offered to improve symptoms by reducing limb size via surgical treatments.



On Saturday 25th June 2022 from 1.30 to 4.00pm AWST at the South Perth Community Centre, you can attend an Awareness Afternoon to learn about this increasingly common, yet under-diagnosed condition. Like myself, you may have seen someone with this condition or know them personally and understand the struggle they go through each day with the problems associated with Lipoedema.

This event is being held as part of the International Lipoedema Awareness Month and is being brought to you by the Western Australia Lipoedema Community. During the afternoon there will be International Speakers via a video link, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Nutritionists.
