The Heavenly Harps of the Lipman Harp Duo will take centre stage on 23 May 2013 at Brisbane's 4MBS Classic FM Festival of Classics.
Heavenly harps will indeed be in this world on 23 May 2013 as the world famous Lipman Harp Duo perform 'Homage to the Harp' for the 20th Anniversary of Brisbane's 4MBS Classic FM (103.7) Festival of Classics.
Let's face it, it's not every day that Brisbane is blessed with heavenly virtuosi but the French born Sebastien Lipman (once the youngest ever player with the world famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Herbert von Karajan) and his musically angelic wife, Sayo Lipman, are indeed a match made in heaven as the Lipman Harp Duo. Perhaps as much as Queensland Ballet was wrapped when Mao's Last Dancer Li Cunxin became its Artistic Director, so too were many Australian orchestras and music lovers when the Lipman couple were so taken with Brisbane's many natural attractions that they decided, some years ago, to make Brisbane their home.
Well, there'll be nothing short of a trip around the world of music as Sebastien and Sayo Lipman bless your ears with Bach's immortal Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and then magically whisk you off to Rome to hear an alluring array of Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances. A sensational sojourn to Russia will also ensue with the much awaited premiere of the Lipman Duo's arrangement of excerpts from Mussorgky's Pictures at an Exhibition. Will they musically paint the town 'Red' i.e. a Russian Red? Go see for yourself!
Without harping on too much, you'll be amazed at what these maestros can do (in a musical sense) with harps. After all, there'll also be a performance of a Fandango (by Luigi Boccherini) as well as some Irish music - to be sure! (O'Carolan's much loved Carolan Concerto).
Europe aside, you'll also musically jet off to Japan on 23 May 2013 with traditional folk tunes from Sayo Lipman's original homeland by the Japanese composer Kôyô Kawamura. Evocative of Japan's famous Hinamatsuri (the Happy Doll Festival), the gorgeous Sayo will also astound all by performing such on a European harp yet, incredibly, it will sound like a "箏". A what? Well, okay, the koto (the unofficial national instrument of Japan).
Majestic sensuality will also ensue with the Lipman Duo's renowned rendition of Aria in Classic Style by the extraordinary French born American harpist Marcel Grandjany (1891-1975) who surely must have been a harpist who went to Heaven. After all, Maestro Marcel (who, like Maestro Sebastien Lipman, also studied at the iconic Conservatoire de Paris), actually taught at New York's famous Julliard School for 37 years right up to his death. Undoubtedly there was a harp in Heaven awaiting the 'immortal' Marcel to continue holding 'out of this world' Master Classes up yonder!
