Lilydale's Shortest Walk

This very short linear park (200 metres) follows Olinda Creek between Main Street and Hardy Street. Melways Map: 38. E.5.

The only facilities are two picnic tables which are popular with local workers during their lunch break.

The old path - top photo, the new path- bottom photo.
It has recently undergone a makeover, with the straight asphalt path changing to a meandering concrete path, which is closer to the creek.

Another view of the old path at top and new at bottom.
Much of the foliage along Olinda Creek has been cleared to give visual and physical access to Olinda Creek.

Two landscaped areas between the path and creek offer seating upon concrete seating to enjoy the sights and sounds of the running water of the creek.

According to a sign at the Hardy Street end the path is part of the Carrum to Warburton Trail.

As you approach Main Street a large image of a girl’s head appears above the foliage, then an eastern rosella appears. They are part of a mural on the side of Taco Bills Mexican restaurant.

Many birds can be seen on this short walk. I have seen magpies, noisy miners and a raven in a tree.

The flora is mainly trees, bushes and shrubs, but a few flowering items have been planted. a borage flower, geranium, yellow calendula and a chicory flower.

There are three ways to enjoy this walk. A shortcut between Hardy Street and Main Street takes a couple of minutes, a leisurely stroll, or half an hour utilizing the picnic tables.
