The Lion's Club at Donvale are holding their annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday the
25th of August, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at St David's Cricket Club, 36 Mitcham Road. This year, they are collaborating with the Donvale Sports Clubs which means that a greater range of stalls will be offered alongside the plants. And in case you were wondering, the barbecue will be fired up as usual, because a Lion's club event isn't complete without their famous sausage sizzles. They will also be selling their legendary Christmas (fruit) cakes along with Lions mints and more.
This is the forth year for this annual plant sale and to make it even better, this year the Lions Club welcomes their new supplier David from DNA Propagations, whose nursery is based in Silvan. On offer, there will be a broad range of native, edible and ornamental plants, so there will be a lot to choose from.
Some of the most popular varieties that will be on sale include ornamental plants such as Nandina, Bird of Paradise, Japanese Maples, English and Dutch box hedge plants, Pencil Pines, Ficus Standards, as well as various lavender and ornamental pear varieties. They will have natives such as Correa, Callistemon, Pittosporum and more. There will even be some edible plants including the super-dwarf peach and nectarine trees.
The plants will range from $2-25 depending on species, size and maturity. There are so many plant varieties to choose from, that there are too many to list them all here! The Lion's Club Spring Plant sale really does represent good value, which makes it a great way to brighten up your garden as we move into Spring.
Being the Lion's Club, as expected, this plant sale will be accompanied by a sausage sizzle as well as their famous Christmas cakes and mints. The Past President, Helen Gaylard will have the specialty Gift Store open on the day, as done in previous years, selling items such as homemade tea towels, teddy bears, assorted linen, door stops, kettle covers and more!
The sausages sizzles will again be donated by of
Dicenso Butchers who are proud supporters of the Lions' club.
