Lions Club Plant Sale
Lions Club Plant Sale

The Lion's Club at Donvale are holding their annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday the 25th of August, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at St David's Cricket Club, 36 Mitcham Road. This year, they are collaborating with the Donvale Sports Clubs which means that a greater range of stalls will be offered alongside the plants. And in case you were wondering, the barbecue will be fired up as usual, because a Lion's club event isn't complete without their famous sausage sizzles. They will also be selling their legendary Christmas (fruit) cakes along with Lions mints and more.

Nandina, box hedge, maples, callistemons, pittosporums, ornamental pears, lavender, pencil pines, correa, ficus
There will be plenty to choose from, in time for spring

This is the forth year for this annual plant sale and to make it even better, this year the Lions Club welcomes their new supplier David from DNA Propagations, whose nursery is based in Silvan. On offer, there will be a broad range of native, edible and ornamental plants, so there will be a lot to choose from.

Some of the most popular varieties that will be on sale include ornamental plants such as Nandina, Bird of Paradise, Japanese Maples, English and Dutch box hedge plants, Pencil Pines, Ficus Standards, as well as various lavender and ornamental pear varieties. They will have natives such as Correa, Callistemon, Pittosporum and more. There will even be some edible plants including the super-dwarf peach and nectarine trees.

The plants will range from $2-25 depending on species, size and maturity. There are so many plant varieties to choose from, that there are too many to list them all here! The Lion's Club Spring Plant sale really does represent good value, which makes it a great way to brighten up your garden as we move into Spring.

Lions Clubs are a great bunch of people supporting the community

Lions Clubs are part of community life, in the cities and in the country. Their focus is generally on the young who need a helping hand. They support the Australia wide Youth of the Year project and each 6 months operate a Kids Health Day for hearing and sight defects in early primary school children. Lion's Club are also are strong supporters of their worldwide foundation LCIF who distribute funds in disaster zones and currently to a global effort to eradicate measles.

The Donvale Lions club supports local, state and national charities including Bulleen Heights School, Coins For Kids, Licola Wilderness Foundation, Cord Blood and many more.

You can find out more information on the Donvale Lion's Club website and for those on Facebook you can find more here.
