The Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) is an independent community legal centre specialising in public interest environmental law. Founded in 1992 the EDO receives no government funding and relies on financial and other support from the community to continue their good works. The volunteer staff provide legal advice, review proposed legislation, and respond to reviews on behalf of the community.
In the past the Environmental Defenders Office have become involved in issues such as wildlife protection, fracking and coal gasification, drilling in the Great Australian Bight, and the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission.
A few times every year the EDO holds fundraising events where you can support the work of this community legal centre while enjoying a great night out. The next fundraiser takes place on Saturday 4th February 2017 at 5.30pm, when you can watch newly released film
Lion in the sumptuous surroundings of the heritage listed Capri Theatre at Goodwood.
Lion is about a five-year-old Indian boy who gets lost on the streets of Calcutta, thousands of kilometres from home. He survives many challenges before being adopted by a couple in Australia. Twenty five years later, he sets out to find his lost family.
The Environmental Defenders Office is holding the fundraiser to help keep their advisory service operating, support their volunteers, and to help protect the public interest in environmental law advocacy. Come for a good night out and support a really important cause at the same time. Your ticket includes admission to Lion and some tasty nibbles before.
Of course the Capri has bar and snack facilities, and there's a door prize draw on the night for ticket holders. A raffle and silent auction will also take place after the film. Find out about the event
