Designers on your Doorstep is an online exhibition, thanks to a collaboration between Linden New Art and Design Fringe (formally known as Fringe Furniture) who will be bringing to life a series of events. You'll find an intimate portrait of designers, their inspirations and their bold new works. Enjoy interviews with these creatives, explore their homes and studios through beautiful photographs and online profiles. This online content is accompanied by an outdoor public art project that showcases a selection of diverse and thought-provoking work on posters in the streets.
Amongst the diverse range of online events, there's Meet The Artist. Meet First Nations multi-disciplinary creative designer Nicole Monks of Warjarri Yamaji Dutch and English heritage in an intimate conversation with Linden Director Melinda Martin. Nicole will discuss her large-scale commission birli nganmanha (eating together) that features crockery and cutlery made from traditional materials (grass tree resin, kangaroo skatt, charcoal, driftwood, river reed, shell, kangaroo teeth, echidna quill and eucalyptus) found on country. Strange Bedfellows, Drag Queens and Mid Century Modern - it brings together two speakers talking for 20 mins each in team tag-teamed lectures discussing Drag Queens and Mid Century Modern. Gather your friends and compete to win a prize for the best question on the night. All you need to do is ask a question that unites these two topics on Sunday 10 October from 4-5pm via Facebook and YouTube Live. You'll learn some weird and wonderful facts along the way. Prizes will be awarded to those with the best connections.
Artist Speakeasy - Design Solutions. Questions galore asking if the world was designed with only men in mind. Why the colour pink seems to be allocated to women. Why so many things are made of plastic. And how do we embrace First Nations heritage into design thinking. From questions garnered, the hardest to solve design problems were given to the best and brightest students from Monash University to find the best solutions.
