I'm a retired photographer living in Lilydale mainly researching and writing on Australian aviation history. Now writing more on general subjects.
Come see, hear, eat and buy
The sign at the entrance to Bellbird Park

Bellbird Park in Lillydale is a grassy open park dominated by a large pergola upon a small rise in the landscape. But on the first Sunday of each month, it comes alive with the sound of music, the vista of almost fifty tents but no campers and the hustle and bustle of shoppers, browsers and even doggies.

A row of tents, but no campers.

It's the Lilydale Rotary Club's monthly Craft and Produce Market, held on the first Sunday of the month.

The sign says it all.

The majority of the open tent housed stalls are crafts, ranging from leather goods to hand made ear-rings.

A large range of hand-made leather goods on display.

Foodies are not forgotten as a huge range of goodies are available. You can buy chutneys, pickles, tarts, cordials, butter, sauces, relish, jams, cheese, honey and one stall offers twelve different pies, and much more.

Two rows of merchandise selling tents.

More of the many vendors.

Surprisingly there was only one stall selling fresh vegetables.
Many of the food stalls offer tastings.

Those who want to eat on the spot are catered for with a coffee van, sausage sizzle, pancakes and even calamari.

The sound of music mentioned earlier was from local singer Jenny Luke, who was busking with her acoustic mandolin. Even though her singing and mandolin were amplified, the volume was pleasant and only those that wanted to hear her were entertained. She is there at every market displaying her talent.

Jenny strumming and singing.

Gum Tree
A very rural setting among the gum trees.

Off road parking is free and entry to the market area is by a gold coin donation and dogs are allowed.

Bellbird Park is on Swansea Road about 400 metres past the entrance to Lillydale Lake.

All the photos illustrating this article were taken at the February market.

The next market is on Sunday 3 March 2019.
