For Mark and his Wife Maryke, Lilo has been a labour of love. Formely residents of St.Kilda and owners of a bar Platform 3 in Richmond and Maryke, experienced in design and also writing and producing a lifesyle feature that gave her the opportunity of studying the best cafes and restaurants. Pooling their expertise together they created Lilo, for the perfect lifestyle to raise their children.
The building that now houses Lilo is an original Art Decco building from the 1920's, that has been fully restored by Mark and Maryke. My favourite item is the serving counter, made in the 1870's and restored by a local builder.
At Lilo, all food is made on the premises, with only the bread being bought in. Keeping the principals of food less travelled, so everything is fresh, local and in season to produce the freshest meals. The menus change seasonally with the produce.
Lilo is a licensed cafe and offers many Mornington Peninsula wines.
Thank you Lorraine for the recommendation. I read your article on Saturday morning and flipped into visit Lilo for lunch with my young son. The corn fritters were soooooooo delicious I can never eat my pathetic attempts at this dish again. The service was attentive and delightful, a top spot to visit!
